Thailand's Smart City Vision Accelerates with 105 Target Cities by 2027

Thailand continues its ambitious journey toward becoming a regional smart city leader with its Thailand 4.0 digitalization initiative, which remains a core national development strategy. The Thailand Smart City Expo 2024, held in Bangkok from November 6-8, showcased the nation's commitment to this vision. The event featured seven key exhibit profiles, including Smart Living, Smart Telecom, Smart Energy, Smart Mobility, and Smart Healthcare, demonstrating the comprehensive approach to urban transformation.

Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) continues to offer attractive incentives for "Smart City Development Projects," encouraging both domestic and international investment. These incentives have proven crucial in accelerating the implementation of smart technologies across urban areas.

Data-driven innovation remains at the heart of Thailand's smart city strategy. The Sphere platform, managed by Thailand's Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), continues to play a pivotal role in collecting and analyzing urban data to inform decision-making and improve citizen services.

The concept of 3C—Capacity Building, Collaboration, and Co-creation—remains a fundamental principle in Thailand's smart city development approach, ensuring that technology solutions address actual community needs while promoting public-private partnerships.
